Gross revenues of telecom firms grow by 12 per cent year on year in Jan-March 2014

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reported that gross revenues of telecom operators has increased by 12 per cent from Rs 542.83 billion in the first quarter of 2013 to Rs 607.16 billion in the same quarter of 2014. Meanwhile, the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) of the operators grew by 16.26 per cent from Rs 352.79 billion to Rs 410.46 billion in the same time period. Consequently, the license fees, which is based on the operator’s AGR, also increased by 14.86 per cent to Rs 32.86 billion in the first quarter 2014.

Further, the monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) for GSM operators increased by 8.04 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 113 for the quarter ended March 2014. Meanwhile average data usage per subscriber per month stood at 59.94 MB in the first quarter of 2014. For the CDMA operators, the monthly ARPU showed an improvement of 10.22 per cent YoY to Rs 104.98 for the quarter ended March 2014 while the average data usage per subscriber stood at 176.24 MB during January-March 2014.

As of end March 2014, the total subscriber base was 933 million, with 904.5 million wireless telecom subscribers.
